Asio overload....

A visit this afternoon to my local patch at Worlaby, resulted in the best count of Short-eared Owls i have had since the winter of 2002/03,with a minimum of 12 birds on show. They gave absolutely stunning views in the bright, late afternoon sunshine, with as many as 5 in one scope view at times, amazing stuff and a real treat. They where watched catching several voles and on occasion where robbed of their prey by a couple of marauding Kessies, the Owl's giving their prey up surprisingly easily. Also hunting in the same field, were a lovely adult male Marsh Harrier, juv. Hen Harrier and 3 Barn Owls were hunting at dusk, great!!.Other sightings comprised of 5 Common Buzzard,1 Siskin and a good count of 380 Fieldfare. An excellent few hours.
